I always struggle with recapping our deer hunting excursions. Mainly because writing about sitting in a treestand or ground blind for days on end just doesn’t make for the best storytelling material. Many of our other trips force us to experience new and exciting places (sweat running down your face as you feverishly try to hold onto a cliff face – The Terror) that really gets the creative juices flowing! But I definitely struggle writing about our deer hunts. Don’t get me wrong I love our trips out east and I truly believe sitting in a treestand from dawn till dusk is somewhat of a Zen experience. And as I look back at my photos and video I feel like I should be able to come up with something between the sharptail grouse landing above me in the tree I’m sitting in, does being bred in the field, bucks posturing with each other, etc. Also as an aside, if you’re reading this as an email subscriber you’ll have to visit the website to see the video links. It would appear I’m too lazy to figure out why they don’t come thru via email format.
I love the open country and while at first glance it does appear flat as soon as you leave the seat of the truck you’ll be surprised at how many wrinkles, canyons, folds, twists and turns that “flat” land holds. It’s also always a wonder how that seemingly empty landscape comes alive at sunup and sunset.
Love getting to spend time out east!
